Frequently asked questions
12 answersYes, in the specific sense that matters for an explorer: it is read-only. There is no wallet connection, no seed phrase field, no transaction signing, and no way for the site to move coins. You paste a public identifier — a height, block hash, txid or address — and it shows you what the Bitcoin network already published.
No. BTCscope is non-custodial and has no wallet infrastructure at all. It cannot receive, send, freeze, recover or refund coins, and it never takes a deposit.
Every public page is free and works with no account: blocks, transactions, addresses, mempool, fees, mining, charts and markets. There is no paywall, no trial, and no upsell.
Never, under any circumstances, by any channel. No legitimate explorer needs them. If a site, email, DM or support agent claiming to be BTCscope asks for a seed phrase, private key, remote access, or an upfront payment to 'unlock' funds, it is a scam — report it to us at security@btcnetwork.dev.
Bitcoin chain data comes from the mempool.space public REST API; market data comes from CoinGecko's public API. Both are documented on our API reference page so any figure here can be independently verified against the source.
An unconfirmed transaction is sitting in the mempool waiting for a miner to include it. That usually means the fee rate is below what's currently clearing. Check the mempool page for current fee bands — BTCscope cannot accelerate, cancel or replace a transaction for you.
Convention is six confirmations (about an hour) for meaningful amounts; one confirmation is often enough for small everyday payments. Transaction pages show live confirmation depth so you can decide.
Possibly upstream. Our status page publishes live uptime, latency, retry counts and outage windows for the APIs we depend on, plus the age of every cached dataset. We report degradation instead of hiding it.
Bookmarks, saved searches, alert rules and notification history live in your own browser's storage and can be cleared at any time. They are not uploaded, sold, or shared.
No. Bitcoin addresses are pseudonymous; we show only what the chain records. We do not sell identity attribution, deanonymisation or 'recovery' services, and anyone who claims to on our behalf is not us.
The underlying chain data is public. Respect the upstream providers' terms and rate limits, cache responsibly, and credit them. See the API page for endpoints and fair-use notes.
